William Mitchel Serpas, Jr., age 83, of Belle Chasse, La., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, November 3, 2017. William was born in New Orleans, La., on November 29, 1933 to William Mitchel Serpas, Sr. and Ella Bowers Serpas. Beloved husband of Yona Tabor Serpas for the past 63 years. Devoted father of Wayne Joseph Serpas (Sharon), Michael Joseph Serpas (Anita), Thomas Joseph Serpas (Dawn) and Christian Joseph Serpas. Also survived by his grandchildren Wayne Serpas, Jr., Nicholas Serpas, Jessica Serpas Head, Kaci Serpas Zito, Alli Serpas, Kali Serpas, Megan Serpas Lacoste, Luke Serpas, Ella Serpas, Eden Serpas, and Emmie Serpas and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Serpas was a native of Empire, La., and long time resident of Buras and Belle Chasse. He was graduated from Buras High School. He was an employee of Schlumberger, and owner and operator of Serpas Tire Services in Buras, La. He was a valued employee of the Plaquemines Parish Government for the last 30 years in the capacity of Director and FEMA Manager. He was heavily involved in the rebuilding of Plaquemines Parish following hurricanes Katrina and Isaac.
Mr. Serpas was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had many interests which included performing as a musician, deep sea fishing, antique car enthusiast and travel. He also enjoyed spending time with family and attending events of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8968 Highway 23, Belle Chasse, LA on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 9:30AM until 12 Noon. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Tuesday at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Belle Chasse, LA. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
