Reverend Father Vasilios “Bill” Stamas, age 92 fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the home of his son: Lawrence Stamas of Gretna, Louisiana. Father Bill is survived by Presvytera Angela and their son Lawrence; his sisters in law Presbytera Eleni Kakabelaki and Maria Vasiliadis; nieces Antonea and Maria Kakabelaki of Toronto, Canada and nephew Ross Valdis of Windsor , Canada.
He was a retired priest of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, having served the Michigan parishes of: Annunciation in Kalamazoo, Saints Constantine and Helen in Battle Creek, and Saint Paraskevi in New Buffalo. Rev. Father Vasilios started his journey in the priesthood in 1966 when he immigrated from Greece. His love of his faith and calling was evident in the dedication he showed guiding his congregation. He was a wonderful and peaceful man, who was devoted to his life to his family and parish. May your memory be eternal our dear Father, Husband, and Uncle.
Services for Father Bill will take place on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd., New Orleans, LA, 70122.
Services begin with a Divine Liturgy of the Pre-sanctified Gifts at 9:00am, followed by visitation and Trisagion. The funeral will take place at 11:00am and will be followed by the interment at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Cathedral to help the family defray funeral expenses. (send donations to below address or online donations thru the Church's website )
