Simon Joseph Ronquillo Jr.

August 14, 1954 — November 15, 2017

Simon Joseph “Joey” Ronquillo, Jr., surrounded by his loved ones, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2017 at 7:40pm. Eagerly awaiting him at Heaven’s Gate were his loving and devoted parents, Simon Sr. and Ellamae Ronquillo, his loving niece Brooke Ton, his best buddy B.J. Grace, brother-in-law John, and a host of other relatives and friends who pre-deceased him.
Simon was born on August 14, 1954 the son of Ellamae Vogt Ronquillo, and Simon Joseph Ronquillo, Sr.
Simon is survived by his loving children; Rachel Ronquillo Stipelcovich (Stephen) and Simon Joseph Ronquillo III (Pat); grandchildren Grace Stipelcovich, Julia Stipelcovich, Luke Stipelcovich, Simon Ronquillo IV, Brenden Ronquillo, Connie Ronquillo, and Patrick Ronquillo; his devoted siblings Karen Ronquillo Ballay (John, deceased), Cynthia Ronquillo Zito (Howard), Earl Ronquillo (Rhonda), Lynda Ronquillo Ton and special friend David Smith, Angelique Ronquillo Kennedy ( James); nieces Jamie Zito Delahoussaye , Taylor Ronquillo, and Brianna Kennedy; nephews Colin Zito, Joel Ton, Jason Ton, and Ayden Kennedy, and many other relatives and friends.
Simon was struck down in the prime of his life with a debilitating disease that that took away his sight, muscles, and beautiful voice. He never lost hope, and with the help of family, taught himself how to speak again and even sing!
He was a resident of Riverbend Nursing Home where he was the inspiration and delight of the residents and nursing staff. He loved everyone, but most of all he loved his God. A devout Catholic, he still participated in the prayer group, or service of any denomination. As he always said, we all worship the same God. He loved Father Gerry of St. Patrick’s Church, and had a special bond with Brother Toby of the Belle Chasse Assembly of God Church. Simon prayed for anyone who was sick or just struggling. He was a Saint here on Earth, never focusing on his own disabilities, but always concerned for and trying to improve the life of others.
Simon loved and was so proud of his family. There is nothing he enjoyed more than being surrounded by all his loved ones on birthdays and holidays reminiscing, eating, being loved, and singing Karaoke. He loved to sing! He also loved the Saints (who he said are going to the Superbowl this year), and the LSU Tigers. A former outdoorsman and part-time commercial fisherman, he enjoyed hearing his brother Earl talk about how many shrimp or fish he was catching and about the bayou.
Although we will miss him and never forget his beautiful smile and loving embrace, unencumbered by his earthly shackles, he is now free and whole again-singing with the Angels. We thank God most of all for allowing us the gift of “Joey” for 63 years. He will remain in our hearts forever.
Special thanks to the loving Nurses and staff of Riverbend Nursing Home. He had a special love for so many of them- especially Jean and Evelyn. Thanks to his “Road Dog ”buddy Curtis Sylve who loved and took such excellent care of Simon.
