Raymond Ronald St. Pierre

March 8, 1939 — July 29, 2017

Raymond Ronald St. Pierre, age 78 years and resident of Marrero, LA, passed away July 29, 2017 at 6:49 p.m. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on March 8, 1939, only child of Lawrence Joseph St.Pierre of Paulina, LA and Doris Martin St.Pierre of Lutcher, LA. He was predeceased by his parents, and his son (John Lawrence St.Pierre). He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Folse St. Pierre of Raceland, his sons David St. Pierre (Jan), and Mark St. Pierre (Stacey). He was the grandfather of Collin, Samantha, and Britton St. Pierre.
Ray served our country and community as a teacher and coach for more than five decades. His career started in the US Army achieving the rank of lieutenant (1961 – 1968). He went on to complete a bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master’s degree from the University of Houston, and his administrative required course training (+30) from Southeastern State University. During this time, he and his wife, also a school teacher, raised a family in Jefferson Parish.
Ray’s passion in the classroom and on the football field carries on through the lives of his students. A devoted fan of football, he received a football scholarship at the University of Southern Mississippi where he played for 4 years while winning the UPI National Football Championship in 1958. He was also named an All American by the National Football Rating System.
Ray coached at Mt. Carmel High School (Houston, Texas, - 1964 – 1972), Redemptorist High School ( New Orleans, LA – 1972), West Jefferson High School (Harvey, LA – 1973-1978), and John Ehret High School (Marrero, LA – 1978 – 1986). He went on to win two state football championships. One championship in 1981 as a Defensive Coordinator and another in 1985 as Head Coach at John Ehret High School.
In 1996, he was appointed as the Assistant Principal of Truman Middle School in Marrero. Later, in 1998, he was overwhelmingly elected to the Jefferson Parish School Board. He went on to serve as School Board President and Vice-President and was re-elected to represent District 3 in 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014.
There is something special about an educator who makes such an impression on former students. What is more impressive is that students continue to hold their former teacher in high regard. Mr. St.Pierre is highly recognized by former students as a devoted educator, trusted friend, demanding coach, and most of all a compassionate listener. Above all, he was passionately devoted to his family, and took great joy in teaching his children and grandchildren.
