Merlin Hindelang Brechtel, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the age of 92 with Alzheimers disease . She was the daughter of Bertha Ziifle Hindelang Towner and Hartley Hindelang. She was born on and spent her youth on Park Boulevard in Algiers. She married Joseph Brechtel Sr. shortly before Pearl Harbor. She is survived by her four children, Joseph Brechtel Jr. (Connie), Michael Brechtel (Sandy), Rebecca Johnson and Melanie Brechtel; 4 grandsons, Scott Brechtel (Molly), Timothy Brechtel (Dawn), Christopher Johnson (Jennifer) and Kelly Johnson (Crystal); and 5 great grandchildren, Kendall, Kyle, Andrew, Kathleen and Colton. She is also survived by other family and friends. Merlin enjoyed international travel, living in Beirut, Dubai and Brussels in the 60’s and 70’s while her husband worked for McDermott International. She was a sharp bridge player, both “social” and duplicate. She also enjoyed women’s club activities in Algiers and in Beirut. When she was a young girl in school, Merlin’s great wish was to see the pyramids of Egypt: you did it Mom! Thanks for taking us along. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 9:00 AM until 11:00AM at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette Street, Algiers, LA. Private Family Burial will take place at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Alzheimers Association.
