Leon L. Nohra passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of the late Toni Thamam Nohra for over 50 years. Father of the late Gail M. Landry. Son of the late Samuel and Rosalie Nohra. Brother of Sam G. Nohra, Jr. and Rosemarie Mansour and the late Raymond Nohra. Grandfather of Skylur Landry and Jammie Landry. Great grandfather of Layne Landry, Adam Landry, Sadie Meyer, and Gage Meyer. Uncle of Sandy and Sam G. Nohra, III, Cherie Nohra, Brenda and Richard Follette. Also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. A lifelong resident of Gretna, LA. The late Gail Nohra Landry of Algiers says of her father, Leon L. Nohra, that he was a "child of the Great Depression and a member of "The Greatest Generation". That he survived and thrived through both, made him a very special man. He first served in the Navy during WWII and later as a Marine Corps medic. He was a self-made man who owned and operated a successful furniture business on the West Bank for 40 years, "Harvey Furniture Company". His lack of formal education, cut short by the war, was overshadowed by his intelligence, exceptional math skills, his strong work ethic, courage and determination. He had a reputation for being an honest, fair, and caring businessman, which created a large loyal customer base, which found him to be endearing. His unconditional and non-judgmental love, his warm nature, stern yet gentle discipline, his generous spirit and kind heart, taught me volumes. He has been a constant force in my life of everything that is good and decent. At 92, he was still a vibrant and fit man, with many hobbies and interests. He continued to be a source of inspiration and wonderment to us all. He was a remarkable man and a beautiful blessing for whom I am so very grateful." Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, LA on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11am. Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 9am until 11am. Interment will be held at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at
