Leon “Peanut” Ancalade, Sr. passed away at his home in Buras, LA on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 surrounded by his cherished wife, all 6 of his children, his sister, and his loyal dog, Killer.
A proud lifelong resident of Buras, Peanut became a tug boat captain at the age of 16 and held that post for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1997. A recently inducted member of the Knights of Columbus, he loved his wife, family, friends and fishing. He was always willing to offer a warm laugh or something good to eat, and was making new friends any place he went.
Captain Peanut is survived by his beloved wife Kathy Breaux Ancalade, as well as his children: Justine Ancalade DeMolle (Ricky); Danny G. Ancalade (Rachel); Star Ancalade Frazier (Jonathan); Leon “T-Man” Ancalade, Jr. (Mitzy); Jeremy P. Ancalade; and Adam J. Ancalade. Leon was son to the late Leon P. Ancalade and the late Eva Forbes Ancalade, and was brother to Judy Ancalade Petkovich (Ernest) and the late Lionel J. Anclade (Anna Mae). He was much loved by his 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Leon’s family wishes to express special thanks to The Cancer Center at West Jefferson Medical Center, and Heart of Hospice, as well as the many doctors, nurses, caretakers, medical personnel, and many friends both old and new who joined us on this journey.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 12 at Faith Temple Ministries in Triumph, LA. Guests are invited to celebrate Peanut’s life from 10am – 3pm. There will be a formal service at 3pm, after which he will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery in Buras, La.
