Johnette Burke

September 3, 1951 — March 29, 2015

Johnette Burke, beloved wife of John D. Burke and mother of Matthew Burke, died peacefully on Sunday morning, March 29, 2015 at her residence in Marrero, LA. Johnette was a devoted wife and mother. She was a current member of Hickory Knoll Church of Christ. She was born and raised in Morrilton, Arkansas and was a graduate of Morrilton High School. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and in addition, earned a Masters with honors in Family Counseling from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, LA. She worked as Director of Accounts Receivable for Tulane University in New Orleans. As a certified counselor, she provided volunteer counseling services to schools throughout New Orleans. She was also a faithful Christian and member of the Church of Christ. She will be dearly missed and always remembered by her husband, family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband John and son Matthew, Johnette is survived by her daughter-in-law Virginia Burke; sister, Kathy Aishman; granddaughter Yvonne Allen; great-grandson Malik Allen. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Lois Jones Hammett and sister, Mary Lane Hammett.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation at Hickory Knoll Church of Christ, 2201 Hickory Avenue, Harahan, LA 70123 on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 10 AM to 11 AM. Memorial Services will follow.
