James Archie Aikman Sr

James Archie Aikman, Sr. went to be with his heavenly Father on Monday, March 11, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Catherine Daigle Aikman for over 50 years. Beloved father of Gwendolyn A. Bethancourt (Huey), Robert Aikman, Ronald Aikman (Patricia) and the late James Aikman, Jr. (Theresa). Former father-in-law of Tony Garretti, Sr. and Judy Maine. Grandfather of Julie, Tony, Michelle, and Gina; Jimmy, Kenny and Kevin; Melissa and Robert; and Chandelle. Great grandfather of 15. Brother of Rosemary Ernst and the late Christian Aikman. Son of the late Irene Walters Aikman and James Bainum Wentworth Aikman. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Age, 92. A native of Algiers, LA, longtime resident of Terrytown, LA and most recently of Diamondhead, MS. Mr. Aikman was a Fourth Degree Faithful Navigator of the K of C Council 1905 Assembly 322, the Terrytown Golden Agers and a volunteer of VFW Post 3121.
Relatives and friends of the family, also members of the above mentioned organizations, are invited to attend the Visitation at Christ the King Church, 535 Deerfield Rd., Terrytown, LA on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 11 AM until 1 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 1 PM. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Special thanks to the staff of Woodland Village Nursing Home, Diamondhead, MS, Lynn of Gentiva Hospice and the nurses and doctors of Gulfport Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.
