F. Desiree " Desi" Vogenthaler

F. Desiree “Desi” Vogenthaler , passed from this life to eternal life peacefully in her sleep at her home in Harvey on March 27, 2015 at the age of 75 yrs. Desi was born in Utila, Honduras on August 13, 1939 to Mary and Henry Feurtado. She moved with the family to New Orleans, LA in 1956 and became a US citizen in 1962. Desi lived in New Orleans, in Florida, in Texas, and in various parts of LA over the years, but she always called New Orleans home. She was a graduate of Francis T. Nichols High School in New Orleans and attended business school. She was a legal secretary and worked for various companies through the years, and was office manager at the Berrigan, Litchfield, et. al. law firm in New Orleans, from which she retired in 1995. Desi was a life long Methodist and worked in the church’s ministry in any way she was asked through the years, but especially enjoyed serving in children’s ministries and missions, and participating in the Cursillo community. She served faithfully on the Louisiana Conference Board of Pensions and was a district delegate to Annual Conference many times. Desi loved kids, though she only had one child, Rhonda Feurtado, whom she allowed her parents to legally adopt. She fondly remembered the weekends her group of girls and boys spent with her. Desi enjoyed reading, especially Mary Higgins Clark books, crossword puzzles, watching TV, shopping, and travelling. Her strength and spirit earned her the nickname “Iron horse”.
Desiree was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Cooper Feurtado and Henry Durham Feurtado, her husband, J. Paul Vogenthaler, and nephew Michael H. Feurtado. She is survived by 2 brothers Fred Feurtado Sr. and Sam Feurtado Sr., 2 sisters, Pearl Kirkconnell and Rhonda Feurtado, 2 Aunts Lois Dobbins and Jewel Rose, 3 nieces, 5 nephews, 4 grand nephews, 6 grand nieces, 1 great grand niece and 1 great grand nephew, as well as many cousins and a host of friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Gretna United Methodist Church, 1309 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, LA on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 11am. Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, LA on Monday evening, March 30, 2015 from 6pm until 9:30pm and again on Tuesday morning from 9am until 10:30am. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com .
