Deborah "Debi" Bennett Ory died at the age of 53 on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 due to complications from lung cancer at Tulane University Hospital, New Orleans, LA. Beloved wife of Bryan Michael Ory for 19 years. Daughter of Alcide Bennett, Jr. (Carolyn Zanco) and the late Martha "Lee" White Bennett. Mother of Summer Lee Bennett, Tuesday Rain Lucas, Atticus Sullivan Ory, and Bryson Bennett Ory. Sister of Alcide Henry Bennett, III and William David Bennett, Sr. Debi was born in New Orleans on June 23, 1964 at Mercy Hospital. She attended Bridge City Elementary, Worley Middle School, and graduated from Ehret High School in 1982. Debi was known all her life for her incredible singing voice. She starred in the leading role of Marian the Librarian in the Jefferson Parish Player's production of "The Music Man" at the age of seventeen. Debi was crowned Miss Creole Gumbo Queen in 1982 at the Bridge City Gumbo Festival. In 1992 Debi began her twenty-five year run performing with her husband Bryan at the Tropical Isle on Bourbon Street as leader of her band Debi and The Deacons. Debi is known nationally and internationally as a gifted vocalist, and she had fans from far and wide that would come to see her sing as a mainstay on Bourbon Street. Debi had a loving, caring manner and she was known for her incredible personality that made every person she met feel special. She had an uncanny knack for remembering people's names and birthdays. She was a great mother and wife. She was famous for her cooking abilites, as she often brought food to work for all to share, especially on coworkers birthdays that she never forgot. Debi's huge heart and loving, giving ways will be greatly missed by anyone who ever knew her. Her family and friends hope to keep her spirit alive by living their lives as lovingly as Debi did.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 1 PM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Visitation will be held Monday morning from 11 AM until 1 PM.
