Carl Francis Orgeron

April 11, 1943 — June 16, 2018

Carl Francis Orgeron, 75, of Gretna, died of pancreatic cancer on June 16, 2018. Born on April 11, 1943 in Harvey, LA, he was the son of the late Louis Lubert and Margaret Mary Bartolo Orgeron. He graduated from Holy Cross High School and enlisted in the Navy. After basic, radio, and TV electronics training at the Naval Institute of Technology in Memphis, TN, he was transferred to NAS New Orleans where he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. While in the Navy he taught electronics at Delgado Community College. Carl was known for his servant heart and love for teaching. He was often found golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. In 1964, Carl married his high school sweetheart, Catherine, and settled in Gretna where they had two children, Stacy Marie and Ryan Carl. In 1973, Carl opened A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. The company is now owned and operated by his son, Ryan Carl Orgeron. Carl was active in community service and church ministry. He began a College Scholarship Program at the Westbank Rotary Club in 1978 that continues today. He was President of the Rotary Club in 1992. Carl served as St. Cletus Parish Council President for several years, where he was a Eucharistic Minister since 1971. He was awarded the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans for his Christ-like service to the Catholic Church. In 1987, he had the honor of serving during mass with Pope John Paul II in New Orleans. Most recently he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Immaculate Conception Church. Carl is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Mary Richards Orgeron; a daughter, Stacy Eberly and her husband Arthur Lee Eberly III, M.D. of Greenville, SC, and a son, Ryan Carl Orgeron and his wife Jennifer of Covington, LA; his sister, Geraldlyn Orgeron Bischoff and her husband Emile Bischoff; and his sister-in-law, Ann Marie Richards Ross and her husband William Fitz Ross, of Houston, TX. He loved spending time with and mentoring his five grandchildren, Catherine Demaree, Margaret Ryan, Arthur Lee Eberly, IV, Preston Thomas and Ellen Ryan Orgeron. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John William Richards, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church, 130 Baronne St., New Orleans, LA 70112, or to the Westbank Rotary Scholarship Fund, PO Box 3407, Gretna, LA 70054. A Funeral Mass will be held On Thursday, at 2:00 p.m. on June 21, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church. Interment will be at Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna, LA.
