Barbara Ann Melancon Laurent, a resident of Marrero, LA born in New Orleans, LA on September 20, 1932 peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the age of 85. Her young years were spent in Franklin, LA until she moved to Marrero, LA. There she met her high school sweetheart, George M. Laurent. She was a cheerleader and he was on the football team. They married in 1951. She was a loving wife and mother, a talented seamstress, avid gardener, Silver Stepper and a member of the Alter Society at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marrero. She is survived by her husband, George; Sons, George Thomas Laurent, Darren Laurent; Daughters, Danni Laurent Cuevas and Suzanne Laurent; Grandchildren, Zsa Zsa Cuevas, Marissa Cuevas, Seth Wilson, Andre Wilson; Step-Granddaughter, Angela Wilson; Step Great Grandchildren, Kyra Wilson, Sullivan Lee; Brother, Oswald Melancon; Sister-in-Law, Evelyn Melancon; Brother-in-law, Layton Laurent, Sr.; a Special Niece, Raylyn Walker Eubanks; Nephews, Scot Melancon, Joe Melancon, Layton Laurent, Jr., Michel Laurent as well as Great Nieces and Nephews. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, George Melancon and Almeda Sowards Melancon; a Sister Yvette Melancon Walker; a Brother, Severin C. Melancon; Nephews, James Melancon and John Melancon and a Niece, Eliska Laurent. In Lieu of flowers, Masses preferred in memory of Barbara. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 6PM until 10PM. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 8AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11AM. Interment will be in McDonoughville Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
